7 Unique Ideas for Planning a Romantic Date Night at Home
Maintaining a good relationship requires date nights, but it's difficult to go out with the demands of kids, work, and finances. However, there is an alternative: plan a romantic date night at home. Here are seven unique ideas to infuse your evenings with love and fun.
1- Take YouTube Dance Lessons
Dance the night away. Whether you want to brush up on your waltz or want to learn to tango, dancing is a fun way to spend time together. YouTube has plenty of free videos to choose from. Pick something you both want to learn. Grab your partner, slide on your dancing shoes, and dance the night away.
2- Plant a Rooftop Garden
Create an oasis on your roof. A rooftop garden does not need to be too fancy or expensive. Plant the type of flowers you had at your wedding. Some herbs and vegetables are ideal, especially if you cook. Add lighting and a seating area for relaxing or enjoying wine or coffee. Continue to spend time together to watch your garden flourish.
3- Plan a Game Night
Date night is the perfect time to turn off all devices and break out the board games. Revisit old favorites like Monopoly or Battleship. Grab some cards and spend the night playing poker. If you are creative, you can even create your own board game. Another option is to raid the kids' video games. Add some of your favorite snacks and cocktails to enjoy throughout the night.
4- Have a Slumber Party
Get out the sleeping bags or the air mattress and have a slumber party in the living room. Gather a lot of pillows to create a comfortable sleeping area. Start a fire in the fireplace, light candles, or stream a fireplace on your television or computer. Watch your favorite movie or play some music. You can take it further and make some smores or other camping foods. A pillow fight may not be a bad idea either.
5- Create a Destination Date
Is there somewhere where you and your partner are dreaming about going someday? Whether you want to go to Paris or Rome, bring the destination to you. Take a virtual tour of the Colosseum or the Louvre. Decorate a small area of your home related to the areas you want to go. Either cook or order food that represents the places you want to go. Stop by the travel agency and get some material for planning your dream getaway.
6- Get Artsy
Grab some paints, open a bottle of wine, and get in touch with your artsy side. There are kits available with paint-by-number canvases, paint, and wine for two. If you have some art experience, you can consider painting portraits of one another.
If painting is not your thing, consider working on some other crafts. Build something together like a new planter, or make new throw pillows for your bed. The craft itself does not matter. It is the time spent together that matters.
7- Go Stargazing
Head out to the backyard and enjoy the night sky. There are apps available to help identify planets and constellations. Grab some blankets, light a bonfire, and enjoy a picnic dinner or a favorite beverage.
