Love is in the air, and it’s time to check your fishing gear. Grab your fishing supplies, pack a lunch, and bring a couple of chairs on your way to the water. Your date is waiting. Here are 6 reasons to go fishing on your first date.

1- Nature is Beautiful

Setting is key to a great date, and it’s hard to beat Mother Nature. Whether you head to a park with smooth lawns sloping down to a lake or hike to the best fishing spot along the river, the fresh air, plants, and water do a lot to set the scene. Choosing a particularly picturesque location is a bonus. Are there state parks nearby? Is there a private lake that welcomes guests for a small fee? If you live near the coast, the shore is an excellent choice.

2- It’s a Low-Pressure Activity

Anyone who’s gone fishing knows that you don’t always come home with a fish. The catch is only part of the fun, making fishing a low-pressure adventure. That’s great for a first date. Most people are nervous, and it takes time to get comfortable with each other. Without the pressure to win a game, prove your mettle on a thrill ride, or showcase good taste at a record store, it’s easier to enjoy yourself and be yourself.

3- Conversation is Easier in a Quiet Environment

While arcades, malls, and parties are fun, they’re also loud. If you want to get to know someone, you need a calm space to hear each other. Fishing is a quiet activity that takes you away from the busiest parts of town. Even if you visit an urban park for some catch-and-release fishing, the lakeside will have fewer distractions than a busy cafe along a congested street. It’s the perfect situation for a good conversation.

4- You Face Fewer Social Pressures

Fishing keeps things casual. Nature has many eyes, but deer, birds, and fish don’t care if your clothes are trendy. Some may care if you laugh too loudly, but they won’t judge. Instead of fussing over what to order, you can keep your focus where it belongs.

5- There Are Secondary Attractions

A fishing trip can be more than a fishing trip. You might enjoy a scenic drive on the way to your favorite fishing spot. Want to share a new experience? Take a hike around a lake in a park you’ve never visited as you hunt for the best place to throw a line. Don’t forget snacks! If you’re going for a couple of hours, you have a great excuse to add a picnic to the excursion. Even if the fish don’t bite, there’s something to enjoy and many opportunities for a positive experience.

6- You May Catch Something

If all goes well and the fish cooperate, you may catch something. That’s the point, of course, but on a date, bringing a fish to shore is an incredible opportunity. Fish may be tasty, but a fish story is even better. If you don’t catch anything, you can make up a story together about the one that got away. When you get a pitifully small prize, you can brag about finding the smallest fish in the lake. Everyone knows how to brag if they catch a big one. Whatever happens, it’s an incredible chance to create a bond while exploring each other’s sense of humor.
